History
This video tells the story of the beginning of students’ involvement in Northern Ireland’s 1968. The photograph of the sit-down protest in the streets adjacent to Belfast City Hall is used to demonstrate how the events in Northern Ireland were connected to the international wave of protest. This was particularly true of the People’s Democracy movement formed on 9 October 1968. The video begins with some context provided by Dr Chris Reynolds of Nottingham Trent University before drawing on the reflections of protagonists from the time.
