This video draws on a photograph taken on Burntollet Bridge on 4 January 1969 when a group of Civil Rights activists was attacked by Unionist counter-protestors as they walked on a ‘long march’ from Belfast to Derry. The reasons for this being considered as a pivotal turning point in Northern Ireland’s 1968 are discussed. The video begins with some context provided by Dr Chris Reynolds of Nottingham Trent University before drawing on the reflections of protagonists from the time.
